Renaldo Lapuz: Man on a Mission

Who would have thought that a simple man dressed in a heaven-white outfit, feathered pimp hat and a silver cape would take the world (print, media, television, radio... world wide web included) by storm? If my memory serves me right, the only other person who have came close to that was Snoop Dogg. It only takes Renaldo Lapuz to sing the chorus of his own composition "We're Brothers Forever" to capture the hearts of millions... will be billions soon.

I've been displeased by the way American Idol presented their Audition episodes. It would have been nice if they show the auditions of the real talents more than the out of tune, laughable, ridiculous and horrendous ones. There's nothing worse than idol wannabes (at least some of them) intentionally tweak their voices and demeanors just to gain airtime. Can they just be themselves like what the great William Hung did?

Last Wednesday, I watched the auditions and was minimally contented. There was nothing new about how American Idol shows the auditions. Yes, they did it for TV, but their rating have been lower than the past years. I was about to switch channels until Renaldo Lapuz came into the picture. When he spoke, I was instantly 99% sure that this guy is a Filipino. You just can't miss the accent. When he said he wanted to be an American Idol to give hope to those who are in despair, encourage them to be tough and strong, I, without a moment's hesitation, became his fan. That's all you can ask from a real American Idol!

...and he hasn't even sang yet.

When he was on stage, he expressed his affection for Simon Cowell. I think it meant more than that. Simon is known to be brutal to the contestants. Is it in the Holy Scriptures to love thy enemy?

The real deal was his song, his own words, his own tune. Tones of motivational brotherhood echoed through the Texas audition halls. The chorus goes,

"I am your brother
Your best friend forever
Singing the songs, the music that you like.

We're brothers 'till the end of time
Together or not, you're always in my heart
You hurt your feelings you will worry no more."

It doesn't get nicer than that. In fact, I couldn't get that song out of my head! I went to work a day after and I was still whistling that tune. I think we should all listen to Renaldo's song. He's calling for brotherhood, love and peace. Given the opportunity to sing, Renaldo Lapuz wasted no time sending his message across. The talent wasn't there (although he hit some high notes), but this simple guy who is grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity, will impact our lives.

God bless you Renaldo. Keep singing, brother!

Nicolas De De Leon...

Best at the Bee
For this Fleming Island youth, 'success' is spelled 'N-i-c-o'
By My Clay Sun

When her son started reading signs on stores and restaurants when he was 3, Fleming Island resident Gwen de Leon figured it was just logo recognition from having seen them on television.

But when young Nicolas, aka Nico, read concisely from the back of a prescription bag, "Questions to ask the pharmacist," she and her husband were shocked. More
