Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco better known by her screen name Charice Pempengco was born on May 10,1993 in Cabuyao, Laguna, Philippines. She started singing at a very young age and was trained by her mother and her aunt who both sing in a local band. She joined a lot of small singing competition which helped hone her skill and developed her stage presence. In 2005, she joined the Little Big Star singing competition on ABS-CBN which is one of the major TV networks in the country. She did not make the initial cut but she was brought back into the competition as a wild card. She was the top scorer during the initial rounds but she eventually lost to Sam Concepcion and landed third place in the finals.

 

Charice started creating a buzz when her Little Big Star rendition of Whitney Houston's I will Always Love You was posted on Youtube showing her incredible vocals and range. Another popular video of hers was posted alongside America's Got Talent winner Bianca Ryan which captured the attention of an Indie record company Ten Songs Production based in Sweden. She then traveled to Sweden to record an album under TSP. No official word as yet on when the album will be released.

On January 18, 2008, celebrity news circuits were reporting that talks are under way for a Charice
record deal with Clive Davis Chairman and CEO of RCA Music Group .
